NewsClay White & Trevor Carrasco Claim PTR World Finals Championship! The Mojave Crossing Events Center and AVI Casino and Resort rolled out the red carpet for the PTR World Finals and all its contestants on February 26th-27th. The PTR had teams entered from 17 different states as contestants traveled from all over to run at the exception PTR payouts. Clay White and Trevor Carrasco took home the coveted PTR World Finals Championship which paid them $40,000, Fully Tooled Trophy Saddles, World Championship Rings, and Trophy Rope Bags from Classic Ropes. Clay and Trevor came from the 15th call back to claim the championship with a total time of 35.74 on 4 head. Clay and Trevor took advantage of the best draw in the short round posting a six second run and putting pressure on the teams at the top. Nonetheless, there were plenty of teams in the top 10 that had great chances of claiming the title but ran into bad luck, including the high call team from Texas who had 13 seconds to win the roping but took a no time. One man that didn’t run into bad luck was Russell Hild of South Texas. Russell came to the short round with 3, yes 3 call backs in the top ten. After all was said and done Russell claimed the second place title with fellow Texas native Randy Cotter. The Texas duo filled their pockets with $24,000, Trophy Gold Buckles, Trophy Classic Equine Show Blankets, and Trophy Rope Bags. Russell also claimed fourth place with California native Bryan Bobsin. The fourth place spot was worth the tune of another $11,000. Rounding out the top three was Connie Hiatt of Red Bluff, CA partnering with Jeff Bowers of Creswell, Oregon. Connie and Jeff roped their four steers in 37.83 seconds to claim $16,000, Trophy Best Ever Pads, Trophy Rope Bags and Jackets. Connie also claimed the 3-steer average title with Jim Richards of New Mexico. Connie and Jim recorded a total time of 23.29 on 3 head to claim the title. As many already know, the PTR gives teams the outstanding opportunity to qualify for the World Finals on Reduced and Free entry fees. The field at the World Finals was split nearly half and half on Direct Entries and qualified entries. For those teams that did qualify on a reduced entry fee, that was quite a deal. To have the opportunity to run a $200,000 purse between 120 teams on a reduced entry fee is exceptional. Even for the teams that directly entered, entry fees are only half of other major high stakes ropings. On Friday February 26th, the PTR conducted their warm up roping at the World Finals. This roping paid out $40,000! That is exceptional for a warm up roping of 135 teams. Champions of the warm up roping were Jack Sparrowk and Cody Parker who took home $8,000 for the big win. The warm up roping paid seven monies in the average and three monies in the first go round. The winners of the first round were Scott Hutchins and Jorge Martinez earning them $2,000. Anytime you can have a warm up roping that pays out $40,000 between 135 teams and a go round win that will pay $2,000, that’s an impressive warm up roping! he PTR looks to really build on a great World Finals. The first step is adding a #9 division in the 2010 season. At all PTR qualifiers in 2010 there will be two divisions, a #11 and #9. The first qualifier of the year will be held May 29th in Paso Robles CA. By adding the #9 division the PTR is able to extend its great format and payouts to contestants of another classification level. The entry format on the #9 roping is a bit different than the #11. In the #9 roping you can either pick or draw your partners or any combination of both for a maximum of 4 runs. This way if a roper would like to enter but does not have a partner, then they may draw one. In 2010 the PTR will conduct a majority of our qualifiers in the West and Southwest regions. California will host four qualifiers, while Arizona will host three, New Mexico two and Texas one. This way the PTR can concentrate on the locations that are centrally located around the World Finals location. We hope all of you will be able to attend PTR qualifiers in 2010. PTR Adding A #9 DivisionWe at the PTR are proud to announce that we will be adding a #9 Division beginning in April. The PTR will now have two divisions, the #9 & #11. The #9 will be the exact same format as the #11 ropings have been with a main 4-steer avg, 3-steer avg, 3 Full Rounds, Incentive, Century Bonus and Mixed Bonus! The PTR will have both divisions at each qualifying roping in 2010. These events will qualify teams to the 2011 PTR World Finals where there will be #9 and #11 divisions. The PTR will conduct World Finals qualifiers all over the west and southwest in 2010. The full qualifying schedule is being finalized and will be released shortly. The PTR has worked extremely hard to develop a format which gives ropers many opportunities to draw a check and a big one at that. We at the PTR pride ourselves on conducting first class events that will not only be a joy to rope at but give ropers the chance to win big money. All contestants who have entered a PTR roping absolutely love the format. This is the exact reason we felt a #9 Division was needed. There is no major high stakes roping out there that conducts a #9 Division. We at the PTR feel that ropers of this classification level need events like this to compete at. The concept of qualifying for a major World Finals on Free or Reduced entry fees is unheard of anywhere but the PTR. As many team ropers may know there are some great high stakes ropings that are conducted each year. The problems with these ropings are the significant cost of the entry fees and the unability to qualify. The PTR World Finals is HALF the entry fee of other major high stakes ropings and that is only if you directly enter. There is NO high stakes roping that holds qualifiers where a team can win a FREE spot in the Finals if they win the average. With that being said there is definitely NO high stakes roping that holds qualifiers where 9 additional teams will win reduced entry fee spots for placing all the way down through 10th in the average. We at the PTR realize that team ropers want the opportunity to run at life altering payouts. We also realize that not everyone can afford to throw $2,000-$3,500 a man toward an entry fee just to get this opportunity. This is the reason we at the PTR have developed a format where many teams (10 teams per division per qualifier) will have the ability to qualify for such a prestigious event. We at the PTR are excited as we carve our path toward transforming the team roping industry to better suit the contestants. The PTR feels extremely good about what we are doing for the sport of team roping. We are not here to take advantage of anyone, that’s why we developed the format in which we have. It is extremely gratifying to us to give ropers these types of opportunities. Please see upcoming issues of the Ropers Sports News for 2010 qualifiers. We encourage you to visit us online at www.proteamropers.com for further information regarding PTR Events. | |||
