About Us

In 2007 when The Professional Team Ropers (PTR) was found, Chad Nicholson and Dugan Kelly had a vision. That vision was to significantly improve the sport of team roping for all its contestants. The PTR began by hosting open ropings that created an energetic atmosphere where fans could interact and watch the worlds most prestigious Team Ropers compete for substantial prize money.

Professional team ropers are some of the most underpaid professional athletes in the world. Our professional cowboys need an opportunity to win significant money on a regular basis, not just a few times a year. Therefore we at the PTR established a format that would put more money in the pockets of our professional cowboys. This format relies on sponsors. Through the assistance of sponsors we are able to add a significant amount of money to PTR events.

In late 2007 and early 2008, when the economy really began to take a turn for the worse, the PTR decided to create a format that would benefit amateur team ropers as well. As the price of fuel and everyday goods continued to rise, we at the PTR realized that contestants would rather pick and choose one good roping per month to enter rather than numerous small jackpots. All being said we at the PTR wanted to create that perfect roping. The format that we came up with was one that would give ropers over 100 ways to win money in a single roping. The ropings are equipped with a Main 4-Steer Average, Consolation 3-Steer Average, 3 Full Rounds, Incentive, Century Bonus and Mixed Bonus. Therefore, these ropings had numerous ways contestants could draw a check and they were essentially “mini” versions of some of the largest high stakes ropings in the country.

Beginning in January of 2009 all PTR events will become qualifiers to our newly established World Finals. We at the PTR realized that every team roper wants the opportunity to run at life altering payouts without having to refinance the ranch in order to afford the entry fee. With this in mind we decided to make all our new format ropings qualifiers toward our World Finals. As stated earlier, the PTR was created by ropers for ropers, therefore we understand what contestants want. It is our mission at the PTR to significantly better the sport of team roping for the all its contestants. We are truly blessed with all the support we have received thus far and look forward to a future full of positive life changing experiences.

Sincerely,
Chad Nicholson
